Treats Around the World
Every country has its own special sweet treats. Pack your bags (and your appetite), we are going on a baking world tour!
France: Macarons
Little almond meringue cookies sandwiched with filling. They come in every color of the rainbow and need lots of practice to get "feet" (the frilly bottom edge).
Japan: Mochi
Soft, squishy, stretchy treats made from pounded sticky rice. Some are filled with sweet bean paste or ice cream!
Brazil: Brigadeiros
Fudgy chocolate truffle balls rolled in sprinkles. You can find them at almost every Brazilian birthday party.
Mexico: Conchas
Sweet bread rolls with a crunchy sugar topping shaped like a seashell. "Concha" means shell in Spanish.
Australia: Fairy Bread
White bread spread with butter and covered in rainbow sprinkles (they call them "hundreds and thousands"). A party classic!
United Kingdom: Scones
Crumbly little cakes served with jam and clotted cream at tea time. People argue about whether the jam or cream goes first!
Sweden: Kanelbullar
Twisty cinnamon buns. Sweden has a whole national Cinnamon Bun Day on October 4th!
India: Nankhatai
Melt-in-your-mouth shortbread cookies flavored with cardamom, often topped with pistachios.
